Namara Development Update #1
A first look at where Namara stands — world-building foundations, early combat systems, and what we're focused on next.
Namara: The Fallen World has been in active development for a while now, and we're overdue for a proper update on where things stand.
This post covers the current state of the project — what's working, what we're still figuring out, and what's coming up next.
The World
The Namara civilization fell long before the story begins. Players arrive in a world that's already broken — ancient ruins half-swallowed by wilderness, factions fighting over what's left, and a truth buried deep enough that most people have stopped looking for it.
We've been doing a lot of world-building work at the foundation level: lore documents, faction relationships, geography, and the history of the fall itself. Most of this won't be visible to players directly, but it shapes everything — the architecture, the dialogue, the way enemies behave, the items you find.
Combat
Early combat systems are in place. The feel we're going for is weighty and deliberate — closer to a soulslike than a hack-and-slash. Every hit should matter.
We're currently iterating on the stamina system and how it interacts with blocking and dodging. Getting that balance right is slow work, but it's the most important part of making combat feel good.
What's Next
Over the coming months we'll be focused on:
- Locking in the core combat loop
- Building out the first explorable area
- Developing the main character's movement and traversal
We'll post updates here as things develop. If you want to stay in the loop, subscribe to the newsletter below.
